Winter Moon

Li Shangyin
To the Moon Goddess

Now that a candle-shadow stands on the screen of carven marble
And the River of Heaven slants and the morning stars are low,
Are you sorry for having stolen the potion that has set you
Over purple seas and blue skies, to brood through the long nights?

  2. Thanks for your appreciation. I took the photo from my front porch - the Moon and Venus were so enchanting that night I had actually stopped by the side of the road on my way home from work to take a shot. However they appeared much closer when I got home, so I got the camera out again, and was rewarded with this lovely view.

  4. Wondeful! Reminds me of something I heard about Balinese culture. If a child cries at night, he is comforted by being shown the night sky. They point to the Moon and say, "See. There is your mother, where we all come from and to whom we will all return. There is no need for tears."
This is a beautiful, sensitive blog! Thank you.
